Cold. So cold. Jubilee shuddered, body shaking as it tried to conserve some sort of heat. The room was cold and the water running down her body had been chill as it was. She could feel herself getting all goosebumpy, and wanted to curl in on herself and shake until she was warm again. The restraints holding her hands above her head made that impossible, and thinking about that brought back the burn of her muscles in a big way. Her teeth chattered, until she clenched her mouth shut hard, clamping her teeth down against each other so they couldn't make a noise.

"Can we offer you any help drying off?"

Shake. Shakeshakeshake...Jubilee trembled all over violently as she let the implications of what he was saying and the old towel he was holding out spin through her head. She could think this through. Just. Barely. Through the cold and the ache.

The thought of getting dry was nice, but the idea of having him put his hands on her made her skin crawl worse then the cold. So much worse. It was some sort of psychic dirty, worse then anything that she could just have on her skin. It'd end up lingering, long after anything physical would have washed off. She wanted clothes, and she wanted them now. She didn't want to be exposed any more.

"Wuh-wouldn't want tuh-to put you out," Jubilee stammered, the shaking making her words trip up on each other.

"Wuh-wouldn't want tuh-to put you out."

She was still shivering, of course. (Hard.) Which was fine - it was only when they stopped shivering that you had to worry.

Rike tilted their head just slightly as they watched, glancing with scientific curiosity on her pert, shrivelled nipples for a moment or two before returning their attention to her face.

"It wouldn't be any trouble," they assured her, advancing with towel spread between their hands as if to say See? No touch. "Are you sure we can't accommodate you?" (, bitch?)

So calm. So rational. Like she was being the idiot for saying no. Jubilee shook, shivered with cold and thought furiously. Her stomach was clawing at her backbone, and the little bit of water that she'd had wasn't helping her feel any less hungry. It was worse, because she'd had the water to take away the edge of her thirst. Now there wasn't anything to distract from the hollow feeling in her gut, and the ache in her arms. Ran all the way down her back now.

It'd be so much easier to just go along with what he wanted. So much.

The look in his eyes made her want to slap him, just so he was forced to consider the fact that she was a person. Not some fly he was pulling the wings off. A person. Just like he was.

"Are yuh-you gonna let me down?"

She looked like she was thinking hard- well, for a gook, anyway- and Rike were perfectly content to give her all the time she wanted. In fact, the longer she took, the better: here, time was always on their side.

Then she spoke up again, although it took them a moment to decipher the meaning through the quavers and shakes in her voice.

"Are yuh-you gonna let me down?"

Rike put their hands down and glanced at the chair they'd originally retrieved for her, just a few feet out of her reach. Then back at her again, their face innocent of all inspiration. "That depends," they replied. "Would you like us to let you down?"

I asked, didn't I?!

Jubilee let her head drop, using the shakes to hide the emotions on her face. This was all just an exercise in futility and humiliation. On her part.

And he kept saying they. They? What the heck did he mean, they? There was just one person standing there. Creepy. As. Heck. And it only added to the Borg Collective analogy.

"Yes, I would like it if you let me down," she said in a monotone, still shaking. She was getting better at not letting it get into her voice. Kinda. Man. Hard to keep her teeth from chattering when she had to keep opening her mouth.

(She's pissed.) They didn't need to see her face to get that - it was one of two emotions that Rike really, actually understood.

"Yes, I would like it if you let me down."

And she still said it anyway. Brilliant. "Of course," they replied, as if surprised that she'd felt the need to state the obvious, and threw the towel over their shoulder as they advanced to set the chair in place behind her.

Inwardly, however, the mental gears were turning: she didn't want a dry-down- fine, okay- but Rike were in for it if they left her alone and she later shut down from the cold. Nor was that the kind of thing one could effectively monitor from the video screen, either. They were free to stay- they would enjoy staying, really, watching her begin to squirm and fidget again- if only there was a pretense, a reason...

(Perfect.)

Rike made their unhurried way to the controls by the door, and with a skillful touch, tipped the switch to begin letting her arms down. Slowly, gracefully, they let the lines out, until she had enough slack to sit perhaps three quarters of the way down to the chair.

And then they stopped. (Well golly gee.) Rike glanced briefly back at her with their best attempt at a puzzled expression- no, she really couldn't sit without at least a few inches more- and then returned their attention to the switch. They flipped it up, lifting her again with a sharp jerk, and then let the lines out again to stop at exactly the same point as before.

(Well wouldja look at that - damn thing's broke.) (Why, it surely is.) "Our apologies," they said aloud, feeling their voice perfectly stable even though they could not quite trust their face just then. "We are having..." (what's that word?) (OH, that one- shit, uh...) "... technical contingencies."

"Of course," they replied, as if surprised that she'd felt the need to state the obvious, and threw the towel over their shoulder as they advanced to set the chair in place behind her.

He'd been the one to ask the stupid question, she didn't see why he got to be so smug and patronizing about it. If she'd been able to, she would have kicked him in the shins. He had a whole lot of hurt coming, when she had a chance to give it. And he'd deserve every bit of it too. So he was like twice her size. Who cared? It didn't exempt from the ass kicking.

Jubilee just shivered and waited for him to let her down. Since he said he was going to. So far, he'd done what he'd said he was going to do. Played word games a hell of a lot, but he'd done it.

The screaming ache in her arms as he started to lower the rope that was holding them to the ceiling made her wince. It was worse now she could move them then when she couldn't. She'd sort of gotten used to that pain. This was all new levels of searing agony in her tired muscles. She started to sit down thankfully as the rope went lower and lower, and then it stopped. And then he jerked it back up, which made her feel like her arms were going to be pulled out of socket and pulling her to her feet again. Then down. Then stop.

"Our apologies," they said aloud, feeling their voice perfectly stable even though they could not quite trust their face just then. "We are having..." (what's that word?) (OH, that one- shit, uh...) "... technical contingencies."

Technical difficulties, you mean you're having technical difficulties, you jerkface. Speak English, and speak it right, you inbred hick.

The urge to just scream at him was almost overwhelming. She was cold, tired, wet and her body hated her for everything he was putting her through. It expressed this hatred through blinding pain. Jubilee couldn't really blame it, it was about the only way of talking to her that it had.

"If you untied my hands, I could sit down," she suggested wearily, just too tired to deal with this anymore. Every so often, a big shudder would travel down her slender frame, water sliding down her skin. The urge to just give up was overwhelming. Yesterday, she'd been full of fire and backtalk, but that had been yesterday.

"If you untied my hands, I could sit down," came the tired voice from behind.

(Oh, honey.) Rike would have laughed at the astonishing naïveté of the suggestion, had they been in the habit. (And if your auntie had balls, she'd be your uncle.)

"Oh, don't worry," they said aloud, still tinkering with the switch without turning around. Another little upward jerk, and stop. "We'll have you fixed in no time."

(Yeah.) And in fact, as they continued to play at their new favorite game, it occured to Rike that they really didn't have anything else to do today, and why not make it productive for all concerned? Up a little, down a jolt, a few minutes of waiting and then up again, repeat until...

(Yeah. We'll have you fixed in no time a-tall.)

((End for Rike))
